Project Overview/Final Test Plan

AmDL Overview/Test Plan

This presentation gives both an overview of the AmDL and outlines the Final Test Plan. I will be presenting this in class on Monday. I have added in the suggestions from the previous semester's presentation.

"Geek Tools"

Systm is a podcast hosted by the folks over at Revision3. Every week they share an electronic project that can anything from, getting better audio quality from your ipod, to making your own arcade machine. Keep in mind both of these guys are complete geeks, but I guess that means you can trust what they have to say? Check out this old episode of Systm were they run down an important list of electronic tools.

In Class Update

wOOt!! I just got the two checks off needed for this week (currently week 4) and week 6. Two weeks ahead of schedule and I got the LCD working. That means I'm 85% done with my project.

Big day tommorrow!

Listen while you read: Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child

Well, did you notice the new title? "The Wire Up", I think describes my blog page a bit better.

Tomorrow is a big day. There are two checkoffs that I'm eligible for and if I get them I will be a couple weeks ahead of schedule, however at this point I would really like to be done. I took a look at where I'm at in the project and figured that I have about 75% of my project functional. There will be still more papers to write and more testing to do but getting the 100% checkoff is almost a sure way to pass the class. In order to do this I need to write some more code to make sure that my LCD works, just to show its functional. Then, by far the most important block is the interface for the OBDii. This really needs to be able to communicate with the PSoC in order to be considered functional. (I'm sure some of this doesn't make sense to you, I will try to dedicate my next podcast to explaining the blocks of my project). Its late and I need to get up early so have a great night and don't forget to post a comment or two.

Electronics Project for Beginners

This is a great kit to practice your soldering skills and make something practical that you can use in future projects. The kit contains a lot and all you really will need is an enclosure and a cheapo soldering iron. WARNING, to those who have no experience with electronics, this is probably a little to advanced for you because it plugs into the wall. HIGH VOLTAGE! For those of you brave enough good luck and make sure to leave comments and send me some pictures.

Podcast 1: "Stay Wired Up"

Okay, so whoohoo this is my very first podcast. I wish it was more interesting for you, and I'm sorry that I sound like an NPR host. There will be a lot more topics to discuss next week.

The Automotive Data Logger

Listen while you read: Stevie Ray Vaughan - Little Wing

Well, if you are friends with me you will know that this is my second time taking the senior design course. I have had some trouble in the past, mainly due to a terribly designed PCB. Oh yes, I will speak a lot of electronics/tech lingo, so if you have any questions feel free to comment on my posts. I will be happy to answer.

My project when completed will be a data logger that takes information for the OBDii port on your car and saves it to an SD card. This is information like RPMs, O2 sensors and the like. Every car has a different protocol and for the most part the ADL will be able to read them all. The ADL also has an accelerometer, gyro, gps unit and bluetooth radio to connection on a PC terminal. The ADL is powered by two sources, the car battery and an on-board/rechargeable NiCad battery. The interface to the device is a 2 line LCD screen and a 12 button matrix keypad. All the previously described modules are run by the PSoC micro-controller. I chose this because it has so many UART ports and I'm familiar with the programming interface from a previous project. Whoo, I'm winded, sorry for the long post but that is the ADL in a nut shell. I will try to post some pictures of the device in the future but don't have a camera right now. Feel free to ask questions on the device.

SkreemR's MP3 player

Well, with a little bit of cutting and pasting I striped down SkreemR's flash Mp3 player. I can easily put in any audio file i want from anywhere. So, enjoy The Heartbreakers "Breakdown." All the buttons colors can be edited by changing their respective hex color codes. See if you can do the same.

Wire Up Chat Room

Next live session will start on Sunday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m. EST.
